Cage The Elephant To Open Extraordinary Show at AT&T Park in San Francisco on Saturday, Feb. 6, 2016
CBS RADIO will celebrate the nation’s most anticipated sporting event with one of the biggest selling acts in American music history, Metallica. Among the most influential rock bands of all time, Metallica is set to headline CBS RADIO’s THE NIGHT BEFORE, a one-of-a-kind concert experience, presented by Salesforce, the evening prior to Super Bowl 50, on Saturday, Feb. 6, 2016 at AT&T Park, home of the San Francisco Giants.
Earlier today, Metallica’s James Hetfield made the official announcement live in studio during an appearance with morning show host Kevin Klein on CBS RADIO’s LIVE 105 (KITS-FM) in San Francisco, the band’s hometown. It was also announced Cage the Elephant would kick-off the third annual event with a set featuring some of their most acclaimed songs.
“How cool is this?” said Lars Ulrich, co-founding member of Metallica. “Super Bowl madness, AT&T Park and Metallica all coming together in one over-the-top hometown gig. We are of course beyond psyched and extremely honored to be flying the flag for not only Bay Area music, but for heavy music in general at CBS RADIO’s THE NIGHT BEFORE 2016 edition. Get your dancing shoes ready, ’cause this is going to be one next-level, uniquely crazy event!”
“We could think of no band other than Metallica worthy of headlining such a major event in San Francisco as the city plays host to the Super Bowl,” said Andre Fernandez, President, CBS RADIO. “CBS RADIO’s THE NIGHT BEFORE has quickly become an anchor of our annual concert lineup, and we are ready to share the energy and excitement of the show with thousands of music and sports fans. It’s going to be one of the most memorable nights in San Francisco music history.”
Previous events have included performances by the Red Hot Chili Peppers in New York in 2014, and Jason Aldean, Dierks Bentley and Florida Georgia Line in Phoenix in 2015. CBS RADIO annually produces hundreds of music events, reaching thousands of engaged fans in major U.S. cities.
“Salesforce is thrilled to present CBS RADIO’s THE NIGHT BEFORE in our hometown on the night before the world’s biggest sports event,” said Lynn Vojvodich, EVP and CMO, Salesforce. “With our shared commitment to the San Francisco community, CBS RADIO and Giants Enterprises are the perfect partners to deliver an unforgettable concert with Metallica.”

Formed in 1981 by drummer Lars Ulrich and guitarist and vocalist James Hetfield, Metallica have become one of the most influential and commercially successful rock bands in history, having sold 110 million albums worldwide and playing to millions of fans the world over. They have scored several multi-platinum albums, including 1991’s Metallica (commonly referred to as “The Black Album”), which is the best-selling album in the history of Soundscan, scanning 16 million albums in the United States alone.
Their latest studio album, Death Magnetic, was certified platinum just six weeks after it debuted atop the Billboard Top 200 Album chart in October 2008. Death Magnetic charted at #1 in 32 countries and sold five million copies worldwide. Metallica have also garnered numerous awards and accolades, including nine Grammy Awards, two American Music Awards, and multiple MTV Video Music Awards, and were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum in 2009.
In December 2013, Metallica performed a rare concert in Antarctica where all attendees listened to the performance through headphones to protect the environment. With that show, the band made history by becoming the first act to ever play all seven continents (all within a year), earning themselves a spot in the 60th Anniversary Edition of the Guinness Book of World Records.
